You have most probably heard of Giraffe Manor – you know, the place on top of everyone’s Nairobi must-see list – often claimed to be one of the most Instagrammable spots on earth.
Reserved For Royalty: Discover Giraffe Manor’s Retreat During Your Kenyan Safari
Well, you’ve seen the photos of Rothschild’s Giraffes sticking their heads through colonial style windows, seemingly offering their opinions on where you should invest, through to sending compliments to the chef.
Yet few people know that Giraffe Manor is far more than just a place for tea alongside the highly endangered Rothschild’s Giraffe. It offers Nairobi’s most idyllic retreat before or after your safari and is exclusively available for guests staying with The Safari Collection – one of our preferred property portfolios in Kenya.
About The Retreat
For years Giraffe Manor has captivated guests, yet in the spirit of showing off Africa’s finest hospitality, the Manor opened The Retreat back in August 2021. So for those who’ve travelled far and need a place to freshen up before donning their safari khaki and G&T, The Retreat provides luxurious day facilities that pay homage to the Rothschild’s Giraffe.
The Retreat lets the outdoor flow in, with high ceilings and impressive windows framing the natural surroundings and offering a modern take on Giraffe Manor’s more colonial style. The pool is also where most entertaining happens, as the loungers and pool edge is where The Safari Collection guests can catch a glimpse of the giraffe herds nearby – although, this is not where one can share one’s slice of cake, that’s reserved solely for Giraffe Manor itself.
Why Choose The Retreat?
Whether you’re washing off the dust of your safari (please note that its sands never leaves your heart), or if you’ve got some time to spare before departing to the Mara, Ngorongoro Crater or sunkissed Lamu Island, a stay at The Retreat is what we’d arrange for you when travelling to some of The Safari Collection’s luxurious lodges. This much-talked-about location has just four day rooms available and can only accommodate a limited number of The Safari Collection’s guests – after all, you’re there to unwind and take in the stillness of life (albeit in bustling Nairobi).
A Day Pass of Dreams
For Safari Collection guests who do not require a day room, the exclusive Day Pass allows for access to the impressive sauna facilities, pool, gym, hot tub and steam room. And for those who are landing early in Nairobi and who do not require a day room? Well, we can arrange for the ‘Early Bird Package’ where a sumptuous Continental Breakfast – sans Rothschild’s Giraffe as your fellow guests.
Where Nature, Awareness and Wellness Collides
The Retreat has been yet another fine example of luxurious Kenyan hospitality. While you’ll no doubt switch off during your day retreat, you’ll also get to see firsthand the power of conservation in protecting the few remaining Rothschild’s Giraffe.
By staying with The Safari Collection and its Giraffe Manor and The Retreat, you’ll contribute to conservation efforts. When Jock and Betty Leslie-Melville purchased Giraffe Manor in 1974, they began a conservation campaign in 1979 to save the highly endangered Rothschild’s Giraffe
The focus here has since been on education, habitat protection and a breeding programme, whereby many of the offspring provided by your nosy long-legged friends at Giraffe Manor have gone on to lead lives in the wild. This has all been made possible through donations and a portion of booking proceeds going to various organizations, such as the African Fund for Endangered Wildlife (AFEW), and Giraffe Conservation Foundation (GCF).
“Chwewapo na jua, lala. When you are overtaken by the sunset, sleep.”Swahili proverb (The Retreat)
While we’ll always highly recommend a stay at The Safari Collection’s Giraffe Manor, we also understand the intricacies of planning a tailormade Kenyan safari. We’re well-versed in navigating complicated flight schedules and finding ways to make short layovers part of your safari experience, which is why we always promote The Retreat to guests who travel within The Safari Collection – a luxury portfolio we cannot recommend enough.
