Overview
- Nxai Pan takes its name from the fossil pan it’s located on, right on the Western edge of the pan. The camp faces east over the open grasslands of the pans. The biggest drawcard here are the zebras that migrate by the thousands to this area – the second largest land animal migration in Africa.
- The camp’s minimalistic white-washed design is in keeping with the surrounding white salt pans. The nine environmentally adapted en-suite rooms (including a family room) at this 100% solar-operated camp face a permanent waterhole. Frequent visitors here include elephants, cheetah, as well as the migratory herds of zebra (usually) from late December to early April, however this is entirely dependent on the summer rainfall in Botswana which affects the migratory cycle.
- Classic activities include a day trip to the famous Baines’ Baobabs; the age-old trees were immortalized in paintings by Thomas Baines, an artist and adventurer in 1862. Or learn more about the nomadic San culture and go on an informative walk on the Nxai Pan with one of the San bushmen trackers. Their wealth of true bush knowledge is extraordinary, and a ‘must-do’ here if you ask us!
