Overview
- Like Rwanda itself, Akagera National Park is a miraculous story of survival and regeneration. Situated in the north-eastern part of Rwanda, the 6,000 hectare park was devastated by the 1994 genocide and its aftermath. It saw a rise in poaching and returnees settling with their cattle on park land following the tragic chapter. Over the last 10 years however, Akagrera has been significantly rehabilitated and now offers one of the most thrilling safari experiences in Africa.
- The camp’s six luxury tents perch like butterflies on Lake Rwanyakazinga’s shore. Approaching by boat, you will soon ease into Magashi’s intimate and relaxed atmosphere – most welcome after a stay in the bustling capital, Kigali, or post a vigorous gorilla trek in Volcanoes National Park.
- At the camp, earthy tones with hints of pink prevail, as does genuine Rwandan hospitality. The warm and welcoming staff love sharing their traditional Kugisha dinner with guests, accompanied by cattle-herding songs and stories.
